Why support the Sainte-Denise-Louise project

rooted in history, and a bearer of Dunkirk’s identity;
that brings people together, through crowdfunding, sponsorship and a strong commitment from volunteers;
low-carbon, and based on lasting resources;
that brings new skills to the area;
that helps as many people as possible discover classic sailing and a remembrance route on the water;
that builds cooperation with every organisation in the region pursuing similar aims.

Towards the Dunkirk fishermen who took part in Operation Dynamo and helped shape Dunkirk’s identity. Quiet heroes, they went back to fishing without seeking glory for what they had done.
Towards a ship, the only French boat officially recognised by the British Association of Dunkirk Little Ships. Her status as a historic object shows her importance as heritage.

Today, the hull of the Sainte-Denise-Louise is rotting away on a Dunkirk quay. Too badly damaged, the boat cannot be restored.

We can still preserve this witness and keep it alive by building a faithful replica, based on what can still be seen and on the archives that remain.
